Came here on 11/16 which I guess was their off season. We came mostly to try their oysters, but unfortunately, during off-season their kitchen is closed and they're really only a bar. We still ended up sitting down and grabbing two drinks while we were there. They had one bartender which was fine since they weren't too busy anyway she was really sweet and kept in conversation with us the whole time we were there. The place is rather small, but I imagine during peak season that this place could get really busy .

Very limited menu and small space but the mussels!!!! Generally I would say if you don't like mussels probably not for you but i had never had one (the idea of them grossed me out) and my husband made me try one and then I couldn't stop eating them! He said they were the best he had ever had! They were the bar harbor blondes, amazing!!!! Also an incredible bourbon selection!

Best oysters I've ever had! The shallot sherry that came with it was perfect. I will warn you though, they are also probably the most expensive oysters I've ever had, but worth it! Lovely beer and liquor selection as well. This place is small, but it has such a coastal vibe and was the perfect place to enjoy the delicious oysters with a beer. I got there right when they opened and got a spot at the bar, but it also seems to get pretty lively at night. I love that they have a limited menu and do those things so well. The service was excellent too.

Nice place, warm welcome by the bartender. Got Pinot Grigio and oysters. The Pinot Grigio was ok, so were the oysters (Still a little fat) but they were well opened (not like others).

Great local watering hole! Best oysters I've ever had. Also tried the kombucha marg which I enjoyed. The bartender was super kind and friendly. Small little joint right on the square. Super super small menu but lemme save you the time and say - get the oysters!!

The oysters here were the absolute best we had our entire trip on the coast, simple, extraordinarily perfect, clean, loved and exquisite oysters. The chef really loves what he does even if it is simple, and you can tell the mignonette being emulsified was unbelievably unique and delicious. The bartender was kind, funny and extremely knowledgeable and quick, great experience!

Let's face it The Barnacle is a breath of fresh air in a touristy town surrounded by t-shirt-hocking retailers and ice cream parlors. This place is small, but full of personality, great oysters, nice wine on tap, and local beer. Stopped in twice for oysters. They had Bar Harbor Blondes which matched perfectly with their Chenin Blanc. Love the maps, the style and individuality of their crew. I'd stop in anytime I'm in town.

I asked the folks in the service industry what are some of their 'go to' joints and The Barnacle consistently made their list. That's good enough for me. Absolutely the best oysters I have ever had! Huge high fives to the oyster shucker, absolute perfection. Smaller place, but if you can get a seat grab it. Very good cocktails too, but the oysters are the star. Not touristy so you can escape the crowds.

Beers, pretzels and oysters. What more can you need? Service was great even with one guy hustling, oysters were briny with an absolutely insane shallot mignonette and the pretzel with cheese was - cheesy. A great beer and a snack spot while also almost feeling like you're on a boat with the interior.

If I lived in Bar Harbor, I'd be a regular here. Good draft beer and wine on tap selections. It's got a good vibe and the bartender was aware of anyone needing anything - despite being the hardest working bartender I've ever seen. We were sitting at the bar when another patron spoke with the bartender and complimented him on his service and professionalism. The bartender is a great source for local restaurant recommendations too. Also a full liquor bar. While we didn't order food, the bartender was very excited about their local oysters. They seemed to sell a lot of them. We'll be back next time we're in Bar Harbor.
